Spreading Kindness

1 John 3:18:

“Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.”

Recently I’ve taken on a second job in retail. There’s not a single person I’ve met during this journey that hasn’t been touching. Many of my colleagues are working two jobs to make ends meet. Every customer has a story of pain and triumph. But the most incredible part of this journey is just how amazed I’ve been at the goodness of people and seeing first hand the beauty of “paying it forward”.

Watching others just give, not because they have to or because the people behind them in line can’t afford it…they just simply wanted to do something kind for another individual. If we all had that mentality, just think how beautiful the world would be.

Maybe you are like most and simply don’t have anything extra financially to give, that’s okay and understandable. Can you give a smile and say “have a great day”? Can you open a door for someone? Can you lend a hand if someone else’s hands are full? Can you give a compliment or say “thank you”? There are many little ways to make a difference.

The importance of “paying it forward” is just letting someone else know that they are thought of, they are loved, they aren’t forgotten. We don’t know what the other person has gone through. We don’t know what the other person feels. Your brief moment of kindness just might be the one thing that helps them keep going and not give up.

So during this holiday season, take a moment and make a difference in someone else’s life. And if that stranger “pays it forward” down the line to another stranger, just think of the incredible beauty blossoming from one act of kindness. There’s nothing more incredible than starting a chain reaction of goodness in the world.
