James 1:6: “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”
During a recent conversation, someone mentioned the old classic saying “expect the worst and hope for the best”. Do you ever find yourself thinking that way too?
Now I completely understand why people like to use this phrase because it helps them make sure they have numerous plans if something starts faltering in unexpected ways. But I still really dislike the statement because I feel it goes against everything us Christians stand for and really places us out of God’s alignment. Here’s why…
When you’re planning for the worse to happen, it places you in a very difficult situation. Planning contingencies is going to make your faith waver because you have already put it in your mind that something is going to go wrong. Expectation is a form of your faith. So by placing the thought that something is going to go haywire or terribly wrong, then that is exactly what’s going to happen and you’ll put more time and effort into making backup plans than holding on to God’s word that everything will work out by His love and grace.
Fear and doubt will always creep in when you are believing for something amazing to happen in your life. You will have to choose if you will allow the fear and doubt to mull through your mind or to believe that God wants the best for you and He will make it happen.
There’s never a day that goes by when some fleck of doubt won’t try to bombard your thoughts. There’s never a day that goes by when fear won’t try to take hold. Don’t let it toss you like a wave of the sea. Instead, rebuke the fear and doubt and put it in it’s rightful place…in Jesus’ hands. That’s why we are told that no weapon formed against us will prosper. (Isaiah 54:17)
Don’t let the enemy get the best of you. Keep standing on God’s word. Keep holding onto your faith. For when you do, God’s supernatural will touch your natural and only good things will happen for you and your family. Don’t let another day go by before you learn to hold to the truth and let it set you free! God is always ready, willing, and able. Let Him be your source and know that everything will be alright!
Romans 15:13: “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
